comScore Data Shows Significant Gain In Global Audience Share

New York, NY – August 25, 2009 – Sony Music Entertainment today announced that it has been named one of the Web’s top 10 entertainment music destinations by comScore Media Metrix, an online marketing research company.

Sony Music ranks #10 in the world among online entertainment music destinations, according to comScore’s June 2009 key measures report. During the month, Sony Music’s network of artist websites attracted more than 33 million visits and almost 20 million unique individuals globally. This rise in traffic reflects Sony Music’s ongoing focus on building Web destinations that offer clean and easy navigation, compelling user experiences that connect fans and artists, and innovative direct-to-consumer features. For example, Sony Music is leading the music industry by employing a globalization capability across its network that allows fans to automatically view their favorite artist sites in their local language, interact with other nearby fans and read regional news and information.

In addition, Sony Music continues to introduce new features that enhance the experience and functionality of its sites, including the opportunity to earn points and redeem rewards for loyal fans who visit frequently. There are also playlist recommendations in Sony Music’s on-demand audio streaming players that assist with music discovery by suggesting new tracks to listen to based on songs the user has already selected, and with the integrated lyrics function, fans can listen to songs and follow along with the words. With these unique features driving growth in traffic and visitors, Sony Music’s websites have become go-to destinations for fans as well as advertisers, including AT&T, Old Navy, Virgin Mobile USA and other major brands. Sony Pictures Television digital advertising sales is responsible for advertising and sponsorship sales for the Sony Music network.

As one of the world’s most trafficked online music destinations, Sony Music joins the ranks of AOL, Yahoo!, MySpace Music, MTV Networks, and imeem.

Spirit’s first single Bleeding Love claimed the #1 chart spot for seven weeks and became the best selling single of 2007 in the UK and of 2008 in the US and iTunes top selling single of 2008. Leona Lewis – by Paul Flynn

Statistically, emotionally, dramatically and with an apparent ease that masks the deeper machinations of Leona’s fundamental talent, 2008 was hers. With Leona this still feels like the beginning of a story that will continue to beguile her millions of admirers and bemuse the received wisdom of how the star story ought to progress for a long time into the future.

Some select dates from the Leona Lewis Diary, 2008…

January: Leona eases into her year with a cool four Brit Awards nominations.
February: Leona is the invited guest to play at Clive Davis LA Grammy Awards party to a room that includes, amongst illustrious, glittering others, her idol Whitney Houston.
March: The most powerful woman in America, Oprah Winfrey says of Leona ‘a star is born’ as she thrills America with her number one single ‘Bleeding Love’, becoming the first UK female artist to take pole position with a debut since Sheena Easton did it in 1982.
April: Leona repeats the astronomical British success of her ‘Spirit’ album by becoming the first UK artist ever, regardless of gender, to debut at number 1 on the Billboard US album charts.
May: Leona performs to the biggest television audience of her entire career, somewhere over the rainbow of 30million awestruck faces, when she replays the gift of her discovery to Simon Cowell, by appearing on his smash hit US variant, American Idol. Ryan Seacrest duly dazzled!
June: Leona performs for and meets Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday concert. Surely nobody needs spelling out the significance of this one for a mixed race girl from Hackney?
July: To lend her some stone-cold clout in terms of extra-curricular international relations, Leona is appointed at a ceremony in Tokyo as Goodwill Ambassador for the UK-Japan 2008 campaign. It is a role that will see Leona represent the contemporary aspects of UK creativity as part of the celebrations marking the 150th year of UK-Japan diplomatic relations.
August: Leona Lewis closes the Beijing Olympics with Jimmy Page of Led Zepellin and the most famous sportsman on the planet, Mr Beckham.
September: Leona will be the guest of couturier, impresario and visionary Roberto Cavalli at his Milan Fashion Week show.
October: Leona will join the rarefied company of Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani and, if the rumour mill is to be believed, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, when the buzz and clip of her Akon-produced brand new single ‘Forgive Me’ cuts loose.
November: ‘Spirit Deluxe’ is released and heads straight for the Number 1 slot.

December: An extraordinary campaign is ignited among fans to get ‘Run’ released as a single, resulting in Leona celebrating her third Number 1 single and becoming the fastest selling digital release ever. The year is rounded off with an amazing 3 Grammy nominations.

2009 has seen Leona head back into the studio to work on her highly anticipated second album, with a cast list of writers, producers and musicians that reads like a veritable ‘Who’s Who’ of everything that is exciting and fresh in today’s music industry. The eagerly awaited album is planned to drop in November 2009, along with a coffee-table photo book which has documented Leona’s amazing journey; from Hackney to Hollywood…and beyond.

Dear Martin,

On behalf of the Union of Jewish Women of Cape Town, I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the generous contribution of taking time out of your busy schedule to play music at our recently held fundraiser for the fashion show.

The funds raised will be contributed to our ongoing project which entails building a second classroom and suitable playground for the Masikululeke Crèche in Joe Slovo, Milnerton. The Kesher group of Camps Bay has been assisting this worthy cause for 8 years, by providing the crèche with much needed play equipment, learning materials and food.

Your generosity is much appreciated, and your time has most certainly assisted us in reaching our target of R170, 000. Thank you for helping us to make a difference!

Hello Martin,

My apologies for not being in touch sooner. Thank you so much for everything on Saturday. It was a great event!

It did end a little earlier than we anticipated but this was due to our consumers and guests just being so tired for the other events. As I mentioned we were on event 17 for the month with this group and I think they were just exhausted!

Grant was great and we definitely achieved the “chilled” vibe we were going for. Thank you very much! It’s awesome to work with such great talent!

I hope to work with you again soon. Please do stay in touch!

Thank you and best regards

Volvo Ocean Race November 2008

Volvo 2008 - click for more pictures

Hi Gee,

A big thank-you is in order.

It has certainly been an exciting and intense year with regards to the Volvo Ocean Race project.

It all started with a projection based on more than 50% of the actual numbers. The recession and struggling world economy resulted in a severely reduced volume, yet the complexity and prestigious ness of the project still remained the same. The Volvo brand is a strong brand and together with the Ocean Race, they have created a unique event that is recognized world wide as an exceptional sporting event.

After many site inspections and deliberation, we together with our client Hansen, identified those preferred partners, like yourselves, that we would work with on the Volvo Ocean Race project. I would like to commend, your hard work and patience with regards to the Volvo Ocean Race project. There have been some tricky and interesting requests and the level of service and professionalism expected has been a high level. You and your team have certainly lived up to and exceeded both ours and our client’s expectations.

It has been a complex and intense project and your understanding and exceptional work ethic is a major part of the success for Volvo Ocean Race, Cape Town.

We are looking forward to future projects together, such as the World Cup and of course Volvo Ocean Race 2011

Yours Sincerely,

Hi All

Fairlady fashion awards held at V&A waterfront on Fri 24 Oct 2008

A Brief but HUGE thank you to each and every one of you involved in making the V & A Fair Lady fashion Show such a phenomenal success – the feedback and sms’s have been unbelievable and Fair Lady as well as the V & A team could not stop raving.

I can honestly say it was probably the most challenging production I have ever had to handle in terms of logistics – wind and the repercussions backstage along with all the havoc it played with our technicals – catering staff etc etc – and the list goes on and on!!! HOWEVER that all said it certainly seems all our challenges behind the scenes were not transparent to any of the audience which is an indication of a great and successful event and directly related to the professionalism of the team involved in the entire production .

The TEAM I say because each individual involvement was crucial to the overall success and without each of you I would never have been able to have pulled it off

Martin – as always you out did yourself both on the fashion show as well as throughout the evening –

Steve – The AV and camera elements are what highlighted the entire visual plethora and I can honestly say that had it been anyone other than you and your team handling it all I would have been a nervous wreck

Andrew & Will – The AV content was gorgeous as always – not to mention the thanks for handling all the late requests etc etc.

Thank you ALL and looking forward to the next one !!!

We are back from honeymoon and settling into London life.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at SMD for your slick and professional service and the amazing vibe you created on our wedding night!

Martin you, Brendan and Gee were such a pleasure to deal with and played a big part in making our wedding dream a reality.

The lighting was unbelievable and the music was exactly what we wanted!

I have attached some pics so you can see how fantastic the lights were for our photographs! Dirk says he has never has such brilliant lighting at a function and he even carried on going, at no charge, as he was so inspired!

Martin, please can you send me Brendan’s email. He said he would give me a CD with all the music on it, which I would love! I also would like to give this to our videographer so she can use some of the music on the DVD, especially the first dance.

I ended up saying my impromptu bit and introducing the first dance and it was so special – thanks for encouraging me!

Also I gave your details to close friends of mine Tal Saban and Russel Smith who are getting married next year, they should contact you at some point.

Thanks again

The event was an enormous success and we have had excellent feedback from the client so a big thank you for the important part that you played in that.

They did have a great time and you played exactly the right stuff. As I am sure you were aware, they really did not want to stop dancing and though some of that may be attributable to alcohol, most of it is down to the music you played.

Thanks again and I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Kind regards

Hi Martin

I’m back!
Yes – I absolutely LOVED the wedding and everything about it.

Thank you so much for all your advice and everything that you did to make it so special. Everyone had such a ball, and you played a BIG role in making that happen. I’m so sorry I never got a chance to chat to you. I was on my way to you a few times, but each time I got ambushed by another guest. Such is the life of the bride!

I must agree with this review, I was given an advance record and have heard the whole album , thats why I posted it on my blog.Whitney is back big time with great songs. Enjoy.

Finally, the moment is almost here: the release of Whitney Houston’s long-anticipated new studio album after a seven-year break. “I Look to You” (Arista/RCA Music Group) will arrive in stores Aug. 31.

Here’s a track-by-track rundown of what’s in store:

1. “Million Dollar Bill” (3:24)

Opening the proceedings is this club jam that practically screams remix. Produced by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, it’s accented by a catchy hook on which Houston emphatically notes, “If he makes you feel like a million dollar bill, say it.” The song contains a sample from “We’re Getting Stronger” as performed by Loleatta Holloway.

2. “Nothin’ But Love” (3:35)

Behind the production helm are uptempo specialists Fernando Garibay and Nate “Danja” Hills. Houston proclaims that after everything she’s been through, she has nothin’ but love for family, teachers and “anyone who tried to hate on me/ Even the ones who tried to break me take me down.”

3. “Call You Tonight” (4:09)

This is a lilting mid-tempo tune about love, a cornerstone subject in Houston’s storied career. Her assured, distinctive vocals are front and center on this Stargate production.

4. “I Look to You” (4:26)

The first single and title track is one of two R. Kelly compositions on the album. It’s a simple, inspirational ballad that comes closest to Houston’s iconic “I Will Always Love You”; co-produced by Tricky Stewart and Harvey Mason Jr.

5. “Like I Never Left” featuring Akon (3:49)

Akon produced this easygoing, mid-tempo groove about reconciling lovers. His musical tenor is the perfect complement to Houston’s resonating, gospel-honed voice. She also co-wrote the song.

6. “A Song for You” (4:11)

The album’s only cover is a classic penned by Leon Russell and recorded by a number of artists, most notably Donny Hathaway. Houston puts her own stamp on the track, starting slow and then revving up the tempo. Remindful of Houston’s 1993 cover of “I’m Every Woman,” this is another Stargate-produced track.

7. “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” (3:40)

It wouldn’t be a Whitney Houston album without at least a couple of ballads. This dramatic anthem — heavy on the piano, drums and synths — was penned by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster.

8. “Worth It” (4:39)

An understated but still sassy and saucy Houston goes to work on this mid-tempo song about knowing when love is worth it. She sings, “This is for the lovers just getting on their feet; for the lovers 20 years deep.” It’s produced by Eric Hudson (Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige).

9. “For the Lovers” (4:13)

Houston ratchets up the beat on this outing, whose contemporary, infectious rhythms signal another potential club and/or top 40 single. Nate “Danja” Hills produced.

10. “I Got You” (4:12)

With its atmospheric backdrop, this cut is a heart-felt declaration about the never-fading chemistry between two former romantic partners. Akon steps back in as producer on this mid-tempo selection, also co-written by Houston.

11. “Salute” (4:10)

Minimal accompaniment — keyboard, drums and guitar — provides the backdrop on the second of R. Kelly’s contributions. With conviction in her voice, Houston is ready to shed no more tears as she salutes a departing lover. You can fill in the blank.

GAVIN RAJAH his new collection to be shown on 22 August

Strange it would seem that developing countries across the world faced economic and social difficulties as they suffered from multiple debt crises in the 1980s, requiring many of these countries to apply for financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Ethiopia witnessed widespread famine in the mid-1980s, resulting in the country having to depend on foreign aid to provide food to its population and worldwide efforts to address and raise money to help Ethiopians, such as the famous Live Aid concert in 1985……………history is repeating itself in many parts of the world in 2009. This season my inspiration is taken from underground sub-cultures of the 80’s. Think fetishes, synthpop, bold graphics, music videos the birth of ‘straight edge’, arcade games, MTV, new romanticism and nights in Chinatown. The collection is an interesting mix of new takes on references to this era. “The good thing about fashion repeating itself is that you can simply leave out the naff stuff and focus on breathing a fresh life into the cool stuff!”

This season we have custom designed prints, embroideries and even some textiles for the collection – all of which will soon be able to be purchased by consumers to create their own garments! This season also sees a collaboration with uber cool denim brand LEVI’S.

Silk taffeta, cotton tulle, wool and cashmere tweeds, denim, silk duchesse, silk stretch twills, satin finished wools and wool blend knits are integral to this collection. Gilded corded laces, Spanish cotton lace, hand fringed textiles and delicate paillette embroideries make this collection one which is labour intensive and focused on surface details.

This season also heralds a collaboration with Levi’s South Africa and one of which we are exceptionally proud of. The collection will feature our take on Levi’s inspired denim collection for men and women.

The 80’s was a period I grew up as a kid and looking back now, it was a time that I was exposed to many places, books, ideas, forms of music, art and theatre. All of this I have my parents to thank for. This year also marks a loss for me which will never be replaced….the death of my Dad to whom I am eternally grateful to for exposing me to the fashion industry and supporting my quest to be part of it. This collection is dedicated in memory of him and his influence on my life and work.

Gavin Rajah will be showing his collection off site at the Auto Atlantic BMW Showroom – 19 Herzog Boulevard.

Tickets will be available at . The cost of each ticket is R150.

P.S. Love the title Gavin .. he likes Seether I see ! and the music was sorted out yesterday it is nothing like you would ever expect..come see the show
