Roberts on debut for DHL Stormers

Wales and British and Irish Lions international Jamie Roberts will make his DHL Stormers debut alongside 10 Springboks named in the matchday squad for the opening round Vodacom Super Rugby encounter with the Hurricanes at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

Roberts will start at inside centre, with fellow midfielder Rikus Pretorius, who is 12 years his junior, also set to make his DHL Stormers debut from the replacements bench.

There are seven World Cup winners in the starting XV, with captain Siya Kolisi set to wear the No.8 jersey when he leads the team out for kick-off at 15h05 on Saturday to start the last Vodacom Super Rugby season at DHL Newlands.

The Hurricanes last visited DHL Newlands in 2014, when a late try secured a dramatic one-point win for the DHL Stormers.

The last time the two teams played the opening game of the season was at DHL Newlands in 2012, when Kolisi made a try-scoring debut off the replacements bench.

“We are very excited about the team that we are putting out this weekend and the potential for us to make a good start to the last season at DHL Newlands.

“We want to play the kind of rugby that will make our supporters smile and that starts on Saturday against the Hurricanes,” he said.

Alicia Keys announces ALICIA – THE WORLD TOUR

Today global music icon and 15-time GRAMMY Award winner Alicia Keys announced ALICIA – THE WORLD TOUR, her highly anticipated return to the stage. Keys will bring her repertoire of worldwide hits to iconic venues across North America and Europe, including a stop at the legendary Radio City Music Hall in Key’s hometown of New York City. The celebrated singer/songwriter/producer will visit major cities on both continents including London, Paris, Berlin, Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more on the tour produced by Live Nation.

The tour announcement comes fresh off Keys’ exciting news to fans last night that her forthcoming seventh studio album ALICIA is set to be released worldwide on March 20, via RCA Records. Keys also gave fans a first-look at the album’s stunning artwork. Pre-sale for the album is set for Friday, January 24, in celebration of Alicia’s birthday on January 25.

Keys released the anthemic “Underdog,” the album’s new single, earlier this month to critical acclaim (“A be-jewelled slice of pop-soul with a gently euphoric feel” – Clash). The track became the most added song at US top 40 radio upon its release. Previously released singles include “Time Machine” and “Show Me Love,” which earned Keys a record-extending 11th number 1 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs airplay chart.

In addition to new music, Keys will be bringing her classics – from “No One” to “If I Ain’t Got You” to “Girl on Fire” – to life in a special multi-media, artistic experience on the ALICIA – THE WORLD TOUR stage each night. A meditation on love and life, the show will be a true celebration, filled with the magnetic energy that only live music can create.

American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets to the tour before the general public, beginning Wednesday, January 22nd at 10am local time until Sunday, January 26th at 10pm local time across Europe and the US (timings may vary in Europe). Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, January 27th from 9am local time.

Keys will be returning to host the Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 26th, airing on CBS. She will release her book More Myself on March 31, via Flatiron Publishing.

Disney’s Frozen 2 becomes the biggest animated film of all time at the South African Box Office

Following its debut as the biggest opening weekend for an animated film, this week Walt Disney Animation Studios’ long-awaited comedic adventure Frozen 2 has become the biggest animated film of all time at the South African Box Office.

Over 718 000 attendees visited cinemas across the country since its release on 6 December 2019, delivering a box office total of over R53 million so far, surpassing 2018’s Disney•Pixar’s Incredibles 2 that was the previous record holder. With this record, Walt Disney Studios now holds the number 1 and 2 all-time highest-grossing animated films, as well as the top 4 highest-grossing films of all time in South Africa with Disney’s The Lion King as well as Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.

“We are thrilled at the response of families and fans of all ages towards this breath-taking and sweeping animated adventure of Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven,” says Christine Service, Senior Vice President of The Walt Disney Company Africa. “We are excited to share more magical animated, as well as live action stories, with South African cinema-going audiences in 2020 including two releases from Disney•Pixar with Onward and Soul, two from Marvel Studios with Black Widow and The Eternals, as well as brand new adventures from Disney studios in the form of Mulan, Jungle Cruise and Raya and the Last Dragon, to name but a few.”

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen 2 poses the question: Why was Elsa born with magical powers? What truths about the past await Elsa as she ventures into the unknown to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond Arendelle? The answers are calling her but also threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll face a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen 2 is now in cinemas across the continent.
