Peaches & Herb set to conquer Cape Town – Sat 4th May

American soul supremos Peaches & Herb will wow Cape Town early this May.

Peaches & Herb

Peaches & Herb

The Sweethearts of Soul, as they are known, are set to perform on Saturday 4 May at GrandWest Casino outside Cape Town.

Hot new concert promoter Lifestyle Events International has brought the hit makers to Cape Town for a historic, once off concert that will feature the duo’s latest and greatest hits: Reunited, Let’s Fall in Love, Close your Eyes, For Your Love, Love is Strange and Shake Your Groove Thing.

The event has been welcomed by an unexpected fan. Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has given the show her endorsement. This rare honour gives Lifestyle Events International the right to use the city’s logo on all of its advertising material.
This is more than a mere show of goodwill.
Proving that they are concert promoters with a conscience, Lifestyle Events International have vowed to give R10 of each ticket sold to the Mayoral Special Fund, which is used to assist the needy.

Peaches & Herb began its meteoric rise in 1976 when Let’s Fall in Love hit the charts. Thereafter followed a steady succession of hits. Reunited attained the no 1 slot worldwide in 1980 and has become known as the duo’s signature song; but other, equally successful hits followed. Reunited’s success was followed a year later by the dazzlingly successful album I Pledge My Love, which has gained favour as a wedding march. The duo cemented their success the following year when they stormed the hit parade with Bluer than Blue.

Strong & smooth Herb and the rather peachy Peaches will ignite the stage of GrandWest with his brandy-and-cream voice and her velvet tones.
Wanda Tolson is the latest in a series of illustrious female performers to take to the stage as Herb’s singing partner Peaches.
Boasting an independent singing career that is as successful as that of her 6 predecessors, the current Peaches also introduces a fresh, sexy quality to the duo.

For Herb in particular, this latest concert will be special. The veteran crooner gets to conquer a whole new city and a whole new populace, in a country he has not visited before.

The concert will be held in the Grand Arena of GrandWest, which for the duration of this night will be transformed into an intimate stage for one of the world’s most unforgettable duos – one that after 40 years in the spotlight can still shake their groove thing.
The Peaches & Herb concert takes place on Saturday 4 May at 8.30 pm in the Grand Arena, GrandWest. Tickets range from R230. Tickets are available from Computicket.

(August 26, 2010 – New York, NY) Back by popular demand, J Records recording artist Rod Stewart’s chart-topping, multi-platinum, and Grammy Award-winning The Great American Songbook series will add a fifth title to the collection with the release of FLY ME TO THE MOON …THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V due to arrive in stores on October 19th. Reuniting Rod with his longtime collaborators Richard Perry and Clive Davis, FLY ME TO THE MOON…THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V was produced by Richard Perry and was co-produced by Rod Stewart, Clive Davis and Lauren Wild. FLY ME TO THE MOON…THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V is the next chapter of the Grammy-Award winning Great American Songbook series which has enjoyed unprecedented success as the biggest selling ongoing series of new music recordings in history, with over seventeen million copies worldwide. With an estimated 250 million in album and single sales, Rod Stewart is indisputably one of the most successful musical performers of all time.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy™ Living Legend Rod Stewart has been lauded as having one of the most distinctive and interpretive voices in musical history. ON FLY ME TO THE MOON… VOLUME V, Rod infuses his incomparable vocal style into 12 iconic standards written by the great Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini, and many others, including “That Old Black” Magic, “Beyond the Sea,” “What a Difference a Day Makes,” ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “I Get A Kick Out of You,” and many more. FLY ME TO THE MOON…VOLUME V is Rod’s most danceable Songbook yet! (See below for a final track listing.)

Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer, Sony Music Entertainment and a producer of Rod’s Songbook series states “Volume V is so fresh and Rod has never sounded better, delivering one great classic after another. This album introduces a brand new element to the Songbook phenomenon: you can’t stop dancing to it. Dinner parties all over the world will never be the same.”

Comments Rod Stewart, “A couple of years ago, I had the good fortune to befriend an American GI who had served in World War II and had been actively involved in the D-Day landings. He said in a broad, Brooklyn accent, and here I quote, ‘Rawwwd, when are you gonna be doin’ some of them old songs again ’cause you make them sound brand new.’ That was all the inspiration I needed. Thank you sir and God bless you. Here’s Number 5.”

FLY ME TO THE MOON…Volume V marks Rod Stewart’s return to The Great American Songbook album series. All four of the previous Songbooks were massive Billboard Album Chart toppers: Thanks For TheMemoryVolume IV (2005) entered the Billboard album chart at #2; 2004 saw the release of Stardust, Rod Stewart’s first ever #1 debut on the Billboard album chart, and earned Rod the first Grammy of his career. As Billboard noted, Stardustalso placed Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and Grammy Living Legend Rod Stewart in the extremely rare company of veterans with more than two decades between #1 albums. The first two albums of The Great American Songbook series, It Had To Be You…the first Songbook album (released October 2002) entered the Billboard Top 200 at #4 and As Time Goes By…Volume II (released October 2003) debuted at #2 on the Top 200. The first three albums of the Songbook series were all Grammy nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category and all have been certified RIAA platinum in the US with worldwide sales in excess of 17 million copies. During the five year break between Songbook albums, Rod took a couple of genre detours – he released his first rock album in 8 years entitled Still the Same…Great Rock Classics of our Time, which entered the Billboard album chart at #1 in 2006 and Soulbook, a collection of classic Sixties/Seventies-era soul favorites in 2009 which debuted at #4.

Rod Stewart has just wrapped up a “Boxscore,” chart-topping, 33 date European summer tour which enjoyed the biggest concert gross to date this year abroad, including 4 sold out dates at London’s O2 Arena, one of Europe’s biggest venues.

Daughtry will be in SA in Oct

Daughtry will be performing in South Africa for the first time ever during October 2010.

The tour kicks off at the Grand Arena, Grand West Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town on Wednesday 27th October 2010 and culminates at the Coca-Cola Dome Johannesburg on Friday 29th October 2010.

Daughtry released their self-titled debut album in 2006. A hit in both artistic and commercial terms, the GRAMMY®-nominated album spawned a trio of #1 songs (It’s Not Over, Home, and Feels Like Tonight), sold over 5 millions albums worldwide and was the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history. Produced by Howard Benson (All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance), released by 19 Entertainment/RCA Records, Daughtry earned multiple wins at the American Music Awards, the World Music and the Billboard Music Awards.

Daughtry topped the charts with its second platinum release Leave This Town (2009). The album entered at the top of the Billboard 200, making it the band’s second #1 album. Its first single, “No Surprise,” extended the group’s extraordinary streak of #1 hits to four and current single "September" is following the same path. Leave This Town again produced by Howard Benson mixes powerful rock to hushed ballads and emotional mid-tempo rockers. It also includes the country-influenced “Tennessee Line,” a track Chris Daughtry wrote with guitarist Brian Craddock that features vocal harmonies by country-music superstar Vince Gill. In addition to writing with all his band mates, Chris also collaborated with some of rock’s savviest song smiths for the album, penning “Learn My Lesson” with Mitch Allan and “Ghost of Me” with music producer Brian Howes; both of whom co-wrote songs on Daughtry’s debut. Leave This Town also includes stellar contributions from Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger.

Daughtry has made an impressive run of television appearances including NFL’s Super Tailgate Party at Super Bowl XLIV, NCAA Men’s Final Four Coke Zero Countdown and Pep Rally, The Country Music Awards, American Music Awards, Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Dallas Cowboy Thanksgiving Day Game, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve show in New York City’s Times Square and are invited back for the second consecutive year on the Today Show Toyota Outdoor Concert Series.

Harry Brooks JNR debut album ‘5th Of April’ to be released in September

Harry Brooks JNR a superb young English singer/songwriter has just signed to Sony Music Africa!

25 year old Harry Brooks JNR moved to South Africa from the UK in late 2009.

‘I love South Africa’ says Harry, ‘the lifestyle, the weather, the people, the landscapes, and the diverse cultural melting pot, that South Africa is .

Harry’s musical background is an interesting one, based largely in song writing, he’s composed music with Busbee (Nashville, USA), Roger Sanchez, John McLaughlin & Studio B. Harry co-wrote ‘Baby Goodbye’ for Friday Hill which entered the UK Charts at #5 in 2005, he co-wrote ‘Bad Girl (At Night)’ for Dave Spoon feat. Lisa Maffia (whichwas granted the ultimate stamp of approval by becoming Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune & signed immediately by Apollo / Universal, going on to be a massive club hit). Harry has worked with producers like Lee Russell (David Grey, Ryan Adams) & with top Swedish producer Murlyn who produced hit records for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Christina Milian, Celine Dion & Sugababes.

Harry Brooks JNR started work on a solo album some 7 years ago with old friend and fellow musical genius (& producer) Mathias Wollo. Mathias has produced and/or written music for Lemar, Rascall Flatts, Meatloaf, Wiley, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Bananarama & Dannii Minogue, achieving a cluster of Top 5 singles in the UK & US in the process. He started out as a singer/songwriter and was signed up as a recording & live performance artist on V2 Records.

Mathias Wollo played all of the instruments on ‘5th Of April’ and instigated a lot of the songwriting in Nashville, USA with other A-List songwriters.

The album ‘5th Of April’ has been a labour of love, involving a huge amount of song writing & recording over a substantial period of time. ‘The album took a while to bring together’ says Mathias ‘we’re two artists with a strong respect for each others abilities, so we knew we’d finish it eventually’.

Fast forward to 2010, Harry Brooks JNR signs to Sony Music Africa’s South African Music division, resolute that he will begin his career as a recording artist in South Africa. ‘I want to start here’ says Harry, ‘hopefully I can grow alongside South Africa in the world in general over the next few years’.

‘Harry Brooks JNR is an unbelievably gifted artist, of a standard comparable to the very best in the world’ says Sean Watson, head of SA music at Sony Music Africa, ‘we’re expecting to take the current standard of local contemporary music in South Africa to the next level with Harry Brooks JNR…..Harry should be viewed as a local artist as he will be beginning his recording & performance career with us in South Africa, essentially joining the ranks of Sony Music Africa’s South African stars’.

Harry Brooks JNR’s debut album is titled ‘5th Of April’ and is scheduled for release in South Africa in September 2010.

Follows trilogy of award-winning album collaborations by Carlos Santana and Clive Davis – Supernatural (1999), Shaman (2002), and All That I Am (2005)

The longest-running, most successful partnership in the history of rock takes flight anew, as legendary Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductees Carlos Santana and Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment, collaborate on the brand new concept album, GUITAR HEAVEN: THE GREATEST GUITAR CLASSICS OF ALL TIME, arriving in stores September 21st on Arista Records. The album was co-produced by Carlos Santana and Clive Davis with tracks produced by Matt Serletic and Howard Benson.

Working from their collective encyclopedic knowledge of rock, Carlos Santana and Clive Davis devised a list of guitar-centric titles – and then invited a Who’s Who of guest vocalists to perform on every track. Singers range from Chris Cornell (on Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”), Pat Monahan (on Van Halen’s “Dance the Night Away”), Chester Bennington and Ray Manzarek (on The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm”), Rob Thomas (on Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love), Scott Weiland (on the Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’”), Chris Daughtry (on Def Leppard’s “Photograph”), Gavin Rossdale (on T. Rex’s “Bang A Gong”) to rapper Nas (on AC/DC’s “Back In Black”), veteran Joe Cocker (on Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing”), and more.

A very special dedication to George Harrison comes together on GUITAR HEAVEN…, with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” featuring singer india.arie and master cellist Yo-Yo Ma. “Listening to the song,” Olivia Harrison told Carlos, “it made me jump for joy and cry at the same time.” (Please see below for a working track listing.)

Along with these stars, Carlos offers “supreme validation and compliment” to his full-time band for their work on GUITAR HEAVEN…, their first entire full-length studio album recording together. Band members who join him on the album include Dennis Chambers (drums), Benny Rietveld (bass), Karl Perrazo (timbales), Tommy Anthony (rhythm guitar), Freddie Ravel (keyboards), Andy Vargas (background vocals), and Raul Rekow (Congas). Bill Ortiz (trumpet) and Jeff Cressman (trombone) also appear on the record.

“To create these songs,” said Carlos, “it took an incredible amount of trust – from Matt Serletic, and from Howard Benson, and all these incredible singers, all these incredible musicians, they had to trust me, and I trusted Clive, so it’s a chain reaction of love, because that’s the highest form of love that there is on this planet: Trust.”

“The cuts are special and the guest stars are special,” said Clive Davis. “But what is unique and why this album stands for more than just the individual songs or titles, is that they were indeed chosen because they’re guitar classics. And they celebrate the guitar because of the performance of Carlos Santana.”

GUITAR HEAVEN… is the first new studio album by Santana since their trilogy of consecutive blockbusterArista releases: Supernatural (1999), Shaman (2002), and All That I Am (2005). All three albums were produced by Carlos Santana and Clive Davis. They represented a warm and well-received reunion with the executive who first signed Santana to Columbia Records (after seeing them at San Francisco’s Fillmore West over Christmas week, 1968, at Bill Graham’s request). Clive oversaw their formative years on the path to international superstardom starting in 1969, with the release of their debut album on August 18th, the Monday after their historic Saturday performance at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair.

Three decades later in 1999, Supernatural became – and remains – an unsurpassed industry phenom, 15-times RIAA platinum in the U.S. alone, nearly double that number of sales globally, the #6 best-selling album in Soundscan history. Supernatural spent 102 weeks on the Billboard chart including 12 weeks at #1. Its success was fueled by the #1 singles “Smooth” (co-written by and featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty) and “Maria Maria” (featuring Product G&B).

Most significantly, Supernatural generated nine GRAMMY awards, an all-time record for a single album project, including Album Of the Year and Best Rock Album, as well as Record Of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration, all for “Smooth”; plus Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group for “Maria Maria.” There were also premiere Latin GRAMMY Award wins (the show’s first year) for Record Of The Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo/Group.

Supernatural was a hard act to follow – but 2002’s Shaman gave Santana a second consecutive #1 multi-platinum album, propelled by the GRAMMY-winning Top 5 single “The Game of Love” featuring Michelle Branch; and Top 10 “Why Don’t You and I” with Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. Third in this series of collaborative albums was 2005’s All That I Am, which entered Soundscan at #2, highlighted by the anthemic rocker “Just Feel Better,” featuring Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

Ultimate Santana was released in 2007, the first career-spanning anthology to include touchstone tracks from the band’s earliest hitmaking years on Columbia Records (“Evil Ways,” “Black Magic Woman,” “Oye Como Va,” “Samba Pa Ti,” “Everybody’s Everything,” “No One To Depend On,” “Europa”) – alongside material from the three Arista albums, the groundbreaking collaborations plus new and previously unreleased tracks.

It has been more than 40 years since the original Santana Blues Band played its first shows at Bill Graham’s Fillmore West in San Francisco, opening for The Who in October 1967. Santana is unique among all the first generation Bay Area bands for sustaining its success on the charts and on the road as a sold-out stadium attraction. Their track record boasts 20 RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums (including their first 14 consecutive certifications) and lifetime sales of more than 90 million albums worldwide. GUITAR HEAVEN: THE GREATEST GUITAR CLASSICS OF ALL TIME carries the continuum to the next generation.
