Peaches & Herb set to conquer Cape Town – Sat 4th May

American soul supremos Peaches & Herb will wow Cape Town early this May.

Peaches & Herb

Peaches & Herb

The Sweethearts of Soul, as they are known, are set to perform on Saturday 4 May at GrandWest Casino outside Cape Town.

Hot new concert promoter Lifestyle Events International has brought the hit makers to Cape Town for a historic, once off concert that will feature the duo’s latest and greatest hits: Reunited, Let’s Fall in Love, Close your Eyes, For Your Love, Love is Strange and Shake Your Groove Thing.

The event has been welcomed by an unexpected fan. Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has given the show her endorsement. This rare honour gives Lifestyle Events International the right to use the city’s logo on all of its advertising material.
This is more than a mere show of goodwill.
Proving that they are concert promoters with a conscience, Lifestyle Events International have vowed to give R10 of each ticket sold to the Mayoral Special Fund, which is used to assist the needy.

Peaches & Herb began its meteoric rise in 1976 when Let’s Fall in Love hit the charts. Thereafter followed a steady succession of hits. Reunited attained the no 1 slot worldwide in 1980 and has become known as the duo’s signature song; but other, equally successful hits followed. Reunited’s success was followed a year later by the dazzlingly successful album I Pledge My Love, which has gained favour as a wedding march. The duo cemented their success the following year when they stormed the hit parade with Bluer than Blue.

Strong & smooth Herb and the rather peachy Peaches will ignite the stage of GrandWest with his brandy-and-cream voice and her velvet tones.
Wanda Tolson is the latest in a series of illustrious female performers to take to the stage as Herb’s singing partner Peaches.
Boasting an independent singing career that is as successful as that of her 6 predecessors, the current Peaches also introduces a fresh, sexy quality to the duo.

For Herb in particular, this latest concert will be special. The veteran crooner gets to conquer a whole new city and a whole new populace, in a country he has not visited before.

The concert will be held in the Grand Arena of GrandWest, which for the duration of this night will be transformed into an intimate stage for one of the world’s most unforgettable duos – one that after 40 years in the spotlight can still shake their groove thing.
The Peaches & Herb concert takes place on Saturday 4 May at 8.30 pm in the Grand Arena, GrandWest. Tickets range from R230. Tickets are available from Computicket.

What a pleasant number of albums I have listened to in the last 48 hours .

Funny how my taste has changed .Must be my ten year old daughter telling dad what is cool, but the number one album to purchase is NOW 57 full of current hits including GoldFish Pink, Katy Perry and many more. 21 tracks in total all winners.

The other goodie is Chris Brown Fame a top R&B grind .Number 1 album in the U.S.A as we speak ,highlights include Deuces ,Yeah 3x.

Freshlyground also have new album out a repackage of Radio Africa with the waka waka song and a remix of big man as the bonus tracks, not too sure about this one, everyone who ever wanted waka waka has it from the fifa album last year?

Britney spears is also sounding great with Femme Fatale, over 55 million records sold in a career, can’t go wrong with good 2011 pop.

My highlight though is the thinking persons Sarah Mclauglin a lady called Sara Bareilles album is called Kaleidoscope heart , 15 amazing songs .a great listening record to play from start to finish .Trust me on this.

House Africa presents Andy Compton

Andy Compton – Kholofelo Remixed

Deeply prolific Devon-based house connoisseur Andy Compton has released over a dozen albums and close to 100 EPs (either under his own name or as part of The Rurals) on his essential Peng label and many others, and his mass of jazzy, soulful output has also already been the focus of three South Africa-specific collections on the House Afrika label.

Now House Afrika are adding a very special forth item to that list with the release of ‘Kholofelo Remixed’, a companion to Compton’s ‘Kholofelo’ solo album featuring a stack of remixes – and notably no less than eight of them are by South African producers.

On a recent trip to South Africa to promote the album and to soak up the adventurous house spirit that’s innate here, Compton described the original ‘Kholofelo’ album as having “influences from the African music that I love added to the deep, soulful house I produce,” and said he thought it was only natural to get his favorite local producers involved: “To give it that South African vibe.”

To this end he’s enlisted a number of SA producers he hooked up with online to reshape his original, live-sounding separates into distinctly South African shape. The roster of remixers includes Da Capo, Darque, PM Project, DJ Harris, LIPS, Deepxcape, DJ Bullet and Magic Soul, all relatively young and fresh names that perhaps don’t yet have the profile of the likes of Black Coffee and Culoe De Song (producers Compton regularly plays out) but that are part of the new breed of beat merchants snapping at their heels.

And you can be guaranteed that if they’ve got the Compton stamp of approval, they’re set for dancefloor stardom.

On the album these sizzlingly hot South Africans join international cohorts representing the cream of the deep house crop, including The Rurals themselves, Stephen Rigmaiden and DJ Bazil, while there are contributions on the master tapes from multi-instrumentalist Pete Morris, vocalists Diviniti, Oskar Castro, Pirahnahead and others, and saxophonist Charlie Hearnshaw.

Unlike the Compton showcases that preceded it – 2002’s ‘Sunday Sessions 1’, 2005’s ‘Sunday Sessions 2’ and last year’s ‘House Afrika Grooves’, which featured 4 CDs of Peng material mixed by Deep Xpressions, Tim White, DJ Strat3gy and DJ Pierre – ‘Kholofelo Remixed’ arrives unmixed, a lustrous line-up of the full, DJ-friendly 12”s and a suitably sophisticated approach for a meticulously thought-out compilation.

And it’s a collection that both represents and defines the contemporary edge of deep Afro-house, which Compton says is his “favourite kind of music at the moment because there’s a raw energy involved in it. It’s mostly done by the younger generation, who are giving house music a new injection of life. I personally love the rhythms, the beats…”

On the strength of this rhythmically-competent statement, there are bound to be many more converts in his wake.

RAPHAEL SAADIQ

New York, NY – January 16, 2010 – Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and record producer Raphael Saadiq has announced the release of his fifth studio album Stone Rollin’ on March 22, 2011 on Columbia Records. Bruce Springsteen Statement About “The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town” documentary

Please see below a statement that was issued yesterday by the Toronto Film Festival — more details to follow shortly:

Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau Management, and Columbia Records are working on completing a new package related to ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town,’ which will include the new Thom Zimny film “The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town.” Further details will be announced when they are finalized.

“The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town” will premier September 14 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town takes us into the studio with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for the recording of their fourth album. Grammy and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny has collaborated with Springsteen on this documentary, gaining access to never before seen footage shot between 1976-1978, capturing home rehearsals and recording sessions that allow us to see Springsteen’s creative process at work.

The Script The new album out September 13th read more

Dubliners Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power – otherwise known as The Script – are back with the follow up to 2008’s 1.8 million selling self-titled global smash of a debut.

An addictive blend of hip hop rhythms, flowing melodies, sparkling hooks and poignant, story-spinning lyrics, with Danny’s mellifluous soulful vocals riding high over huge, anthemic choruses, ‘Science & Faith’ is far from a difficult second album.

When writing, the London based trio found that weighty, emotion-packed mini-epics came thick and fast. There’s ‘Exit Wounds’, which documents the damage relationships can wreak and ‘You Won’t Feel A Thing’, about suffering all the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune to protect your most loved ones.

Other highlights include first single ‘For The First Time’ – released September 5th and ‘Nothing’, its subject matter a drunken, broken hearted phone call to a lost love (“We’ve all been there,” as Danny says). Then there’s ‘If You Ever Come Back’ about always leaving the door open for the possible return of a loved one and the title track, ‘Science & Faith’, which takes on the primacy of love in the universal equation.

“With all of these subjects, we’re always trying to attack at a level where it’s optimistic,” insists Danny. “We’re dealing with complex emotions in the simplest of ways, that’s what we battle with in these songs.”

“On first listen, the subject matter might sound bleak,” adds Mark. “But I think being Irish there is this undertone of hope all the time. It’s about having coping skills to get over things. With Irish people, no matter how bad things get, you always pick yourself up and carry on.”

Featuring a handful of hit singles, including ‘We Cry’, ‘Breakeven’ and ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’, 2008’s ‘The Script’, went straight to Number One in the UK and Ireland and lead to the trio being personally asked by Paul McCartney to support him at a number of US stadium shows. Expect ‘Science & Faith’ to make an equally impressive impact.

The Script is Danny O’Donoghue (vocals/keys), Mark Sheehan (guitar) and Glen Power (drums).

Daughtry released their self-titled debut album in 2006. A hit in both artistic and commercial terms, the GRAMMY®-nominated album spawned a trio of #1 songs (It’s Not Over, Home, and Feels Like Tonight), sold over 5 millions albums worldwide and was the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history. Produced by Howard Benson (All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance), released by 19 Entertainment/RCA Records, Daughtry earned multiple wins at the American Music Awards, the World Music and the Billboard Music Awards.

Daughtry topped the charts with its second platinum release Leave This Town (2009). The album entered at the top of the Billboard 200, making it the band’s second #1 album. Its first single, “No Surprise,” extended the group’s extraordinary streak of #1 hits to four and current single "September" is following the same path. Leave This Town again produced by Howard Benson mixes powerful rock to hushed ballads and emotional mid-tempo rockers. It also includes the country-influenced “Tennessee Line,” a track Chris Daughtry wrote with guitarist Brian Craddock that features vocal harmonies by country-music superstar Vince Gill. In addition to writing with all his band mates, Chris also collaborated with some of rock’s savviest song smiths for the album, penning “Learn My Lesson” with Mitch Allan and “Ghost of Me” with music producer Brian Howes; both of whom co-wrote songs on Daughtry’s debut. Leave This Town also includes stellar contributions from Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger.

Daughtry has made an impressive run of television appearances including NFL’s Super Tailgate Party at Super Bowl XLIV, NCAA Men’s Final Four Coke Zero Countdown and Pep Rally, The Country Music Awards, American Music Awards, Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Dallas Cowboy Thanksgiving Day Game, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve show in New York City’s Times Square and are invited back for the second consecutive year on the Today Show Toyota Outdoor Concert Series.

Harry Brooks JNR debut album ‘5th Of April’ to be released in September

Harry Brooks JNR a superb young English singer/songwriter has just signed to Sony Music Africa!

25 year old Harry Brooks JNR moved to South Africa from the UK in late 2009.

‘I love South Africa’ says Harry, ‘the lifestyle, the weather, the people, the landscapes, and the diverse cultural melting pot, that South Africa is .

Harry’s musical background is an interesting one, based largely in song writing, he’s composed music with Busbee (Nashville, USA), Roger Sanchez, John McLaughlin & Studio B. Harry co-wrote ‘Baby Goodbye’ for Friday Hill which entered the UK Charts at #5 in 2005, he co-wrote ‘Bad Girl (At Night)’ for Dave Spoon feat. Lisa Maffia (whichwas granted the ultimate stamp of approval by becoming Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune & signed immediately by Apollo / Universal, going on to be a massive club hit). Harry has worked with producers like Lee Russell (David Grey, Ryan Adams) & with top Swedish producer Murlyn who produced hit records for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Christina Milian, Celine Dion & Sugababes.

Harry Brooks JNR started work on a solo album some 7 years ago with old friend and fellow musical genius (& producer) Mathias Wollo. Mathias has produced and/or written music for Lemar, Rascall Flatts, Meatloaf, Wiley, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Bananarama & Dannii Minogue, achieving a cluster of Top 5 singles in the UK & US in the process. He started out as a singer/songwriter and was signed up as a recording & live performance artist on V2 Records.

Mathias Wollo played all of the instruments on ‘5th Of April’ and instigated a lot of the songwriting in Nashville, USA with other A-List songwriters.

The album ‘5th Of April’ has been a labour of love, involving a huge amount of song writing & recording over a substantial period of time. ‘The album took a while to bring together’ says Mathias ‘we’re two artists with a strong respect for each others abilities, so we knew we’d finish it eventually’.

Fast forward to 2010, Harry Brooks JNR signs to Sony Music Africa’s South African Music division, resolute that he will begin his career as a recording artist in South Africa. ‘I want to start here’ says Harry, ‘hopefully I can grow alongside South Africa in the world in general over the next few years’.

‘Harry Brooks JNR is an unbelievably gifted artist, of a standard comparable to the very best in the world’ says Sean Watson, head of SA music at Sony Music Africa, ‘we’re expecting to take the current standard of local contemporary music in South Africa to the next level with Harry Brooks JNR…..Harry should be viewed as a local artist as he will be beginning his recording & performance career with us in South Africa, essentially joining the ranks of Sony Music Africa’s South African stars’.

Harry Brooks JNR’s debut album is titled ‘5th Of April’ and is scheduled for release in South Africa in September 2010.

Album single #1 ‘Take Me Home’ goes to radio on July 25th.

The music video for ‘Take Me Home’ was shot & directed by Thomas Ferrera on a 3 day shoot across the beautiful landscapes of South Africa.
